Now Trialling Torah Tags System
In order to make the aliyos on
Shabbos morning go as smoothly as possible, Yeshurun is trialling a
Torah Tags system with those likely to be called to the Reading of the
Law. Starting last Shabbos, Parshas Pinchas, the wardens or
Shammos will issue congregants who have
been identified for an aliyah with a tag before the start of the Torah
Reading, indicating they will be called to an aliyah. The tag is
given up on reaching the bimah. The system is widely used in the
United States, especially in large congregations. Yeshurun
President, Russell Grossman, said : "By alerting congregants to
the fact they are likely to be called up, they can be ready and
waiting when their name is called. This will smooth the process,
speed the progress and allow for less digress".

Nathaniel
Harris to Cycle 1000 miles for Zaka and Sderot
Yeshurun cyclist, Nathaniel
Harris, is to cycle from John O'Groats to Lands End in aid of Zaka, a
charity which raises money to provide facilities for the people of
Sderot.
Nathaniel's target is to raise £3000 to allow Zaka to
equip an emergency first aid station in the town. This will
allow any injuries to receive immediate attention and take pressure
off other emergency services like Magen David Adom. Nathaniel
is starting his journey soon, cycling around 1000 miles in 10 - 12
days. If you would like to sponsor him, please send your donation
straight to Zaka or contact
Nathaniel.
Kleimans
Are Honoured At Youth Service Shabbos Lunch
Some fifty of Yeshurun's youth
gathered yesterday (Shabbos 13th July) for a special lunch organised
by Youth Director, Jonny Ufland. The lunch marked the end of another
successful year for the Youth Service. It was also an occasion to
recognise the contributions of all our young men and women who have
supported the Youth Service over the past months, particularly those
from Year 13 who may now be heading off for University or gap years in
Israel or elsewhere.
The
lunch was also an occasion to honour Michael Kleiman
(pictured), outgoing Youth Service Board representative who with his
wife Susie have put in tremendous work over the past
decade. They have built the Service into what it is today and
devoted hours of time and effort to the cause. A presentation
was made to Michael.
Yeshurun
is very proud of our Youth and the vibrancy of the Youth Service. Our
thanks as ever also to Jonny Ufland for his continuing hard work in
developing this excellent centre of davening, learning and social
cohesiveness. We look forward to the next year group moving up
to join the Youth Service in September. We
are, meanwhile developing a Yeshurun Youth page. Watch this
space.
 Happy
100th Birthday Helen Olivestone
Helen Olivestone (left), wife of Yeshurun's founder Bernard Olivestone and

Birthday on Thursday.

aliyah last year. A hundred members signed a 100th birthday card
(right) for Helen which was taken out to Israel by Ladies Guild member, Brenda
Cherkas.
Yeshurun wishes
Helen much mazzal tov on this very
significant occasion. She is celebrating with a big party in
Israel on Sunday. If you would like to send wishes on this special
occasion to Helen, and maybe did not have an opportunity to sign the
card, you can do so to Helen on her
email.

Hearing
Aid Loop Back In Action After 18 Months
After a gap of some eighteen
months, Yeshurun's hearing aid induction loop is back in
action!
The
system has been completely rebuilt and now uses wireless technology
for the microphones as well as in the transmission loop.
The technology is of course compatible with Shabbos
laws.
Yeshurun
President, Russell Grossman, said; "When we started looking to
repair the old loop, around this time last year, it was thought to be
a simple job. But, like having alterations in your house, as
soon as we fixed one thing, something else turned out not to
work. In the end, the most sensible thing was to replace the
entire system. In all, we have spent around £1500 or so to get
it going again, but this has been an important investment and
recognises the need for our services to be accessible to all.
Grossman
said he wanted to commend Premises Chair, Mark Addleman for his
perseverance on this project and to thank Andre Ingram and then Eli
Perl who have worked on the system over the 15 month period to
recommission the loop. Grossman also added that Yeshurun was now
investigating a permanent enclosure in the downstairs synagogue for
ladies unable to climb the stairs. More news about this in due
course.
